Our Vision
At School of the Good Shepherd (SoGS), we recognise our shared responsibility to care for God’s Creation and protect the world entrusted to us. Inspired by Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’ to care for our common home, we are committed to developing an environmentally conscious school community that values sustainability, respects all living things and takes practical action to reduce our environmental footprint.
Through our curriculum and everyday practices, we aim to nurture students who understand the importance of caring for the Earth and recognise that even small actions can make a meaningful difference. We strive to develop informed, responsible and compassionate global citizens who appreciate the interconnectedness of people, nature and the environment, and who are committed to creating a more sustainable and equitable future.
SoGS is a registered ResourceSmart School, demonstrating our commitment to embedding sustainable practices into school life. We continue to work towards achieving five-star accreditation by strengthening our environmental initiatives and encouraging students, staff and families to take an active role in caring for our common home.
Our Goals
- Care for God’s Creation: Foster an environmentally conscious culture inspired by our Catholic faith and Pope Francis’ message in Laudato Si’, encouraging respect for the natural world and responsibility for its care.
- Reduce waste: Minimise landfill through reducing consumption, reusing materials, recycling and composting organic waste.
- Conserve energy: Reduce energy consumption through responsible practices, improved efficiency and exploration of renewable energy sources.
- Protect biodiversity: Enhance our school grounds by planting indigenous species, increasing green spaces and creating habitats that support local wildlife.
- Educate for sustainability: Integrate environmental learning into our curriculum, empowering students to make informed choices and take meaningful action to protect the environment.
- Build community partnerships: Encourage students, staff, families and the wider parish community to work together in caring for our common home and creating a more sustainable future.
Through these commitments, we seek to live out our Catholic responsibility to care for God’s Creation, recognising that we are called not only to appreciate the beauty of the natural world but also to protect it for future generations.
